Volcano Spews Band

My new thing to like today is a song from a band named after a volcano. Welcome to the world of Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band (yeah, dumb name but don't write them off quite yet). They're a Seattle five-piece comprising a lead singer, his wife, his adopted little brother, and two other guys. And when I say little brother, I mean it: that boy-drummer is only 15. Take that, Chris Brown.

MSHVB have a new LP coming out tomorrow, following up on their eponymous debut of 2008. For now, my new thing to like is their song “Leaving Trails”, the first track released off upcoming Where the Messengers Meet (Dead Oceans). Their brand of noisy, chaotic and theatrical pop reads along the lines of Grizzly Bear, Modest Mouse and even the Walkmen at times. Check it out via YouTube below, and if you like what you hear you can get a free download courtesy of Spin Magazine HERE.
