Great Escape Day 1: Big Deal

Big Deal are Alice Costelloe and KC Underwood. They're also really lovely to watch. They take the whole two-piece-without-bass thing to another level beyond White Stripes territory by not even bothering to have a drummer. And somehow, it works. Their songs of teen lust, adolescent banality and understated romanticism translate so well with just male-female vocals and two guitars.

Coming across like a mellower version of the Moldy Peaches, fans of guitar music with just the right amount of shy twee factor will be feeling this. These are two of my favourite songs, which they played on the first evening of the Great Escape with a concentrated and endearing intensity. This is a band to watch for sure. Keep up with them on Facebook here.
